The beach of Shinaria on the island of Crete is not so popular among tourists, but it is considered one of the best beaches.
It is located South of Rethymno at 33 kilometers and 3 kilometers from the village of Lefkosia.
This is a small beach with gray-beige sand. There are small stones and crystal-clear water. In some places, the sea has a rocky bottom, and somewhere, on the contrary, sandy. Also, you cannot worry about freshwater, there are clean mountain reservoirs.
Marine life is as diverse as on land. Many locals say that octopuses, Moray eels, crabs, squid, and much other marine life live on the bottom of the sea. The water is so clear that the visibility of the seafloor reaches 40 meters.
I am very happy that the beach has the necessary infrastructure: small taverns, showers and sun loungers with umbrellas.
The beach can be reached by a narrow road. It begins with Lefkosia. On the way, you will be able to see around the cave. The views are spectacular. The best way to get to the beach is by car. If you don't have your own, you can rent a car in any major city or immediately at the airport upon arrival.
